FC Westchester U18s and U16s Beat Met Oval by Identical 2-1 Scores in U.S. Soccer Development Academy Matches
The FC Westchester U16 team topped Met Oval 2-1 Thursday night in a U.S. Soccer Development Academy match. A night earlier, the FCW U18s had defeated Met Oval by the same score.
In Thursday night's match at Met Oval in Queens, FC Westchester fell behind in the 11th minute when Met Oval scored on a corner kick, but in the first half's 35th minute, Cesar Ceja evened the score off a pass from Gabe Stauber.
Coming out strong after halftime, FC Westchester scored the winning goal 10 minutes into the second stanza when Andres Penfold back-heeled the ball into the goal off a pass from Taylor Washington.
In Wednesday's U18 match at Met Oval, Brian "Cobi" Span scored two goals within the game’s first six minutes to lead FC Westchester to the 2-1 victory. Span scored at in the match’s third minute on a 25-yard free kick. Three minutes later, he scored again, this time in goal mouth scramble off a corner kick. The game went back and forth until the 89th minute when Met Oval brought a goal back on a penalty kick.
Both the U16s and U18s next play against BW Gottschee Sunday in matches at Aviator Field in Brooklyn. The U16 match kicks off at 1 p.m., while the U18s kick off at 3 p.m.
