Successful Start to Fall Season as FCW '97 Boys Win at HBC Tournament
'96 Boys, '98 Boys and '97 Girls Are Tourney Finalists at Tournaments They Attended Over Labor Day

FC Westchester teams started the Fall 2009 season on a high note, highlighted by the FCW ’97 Boys winning the U13 Premier Divison at the 32nd Annual Peter Renzulli Labor Day Tournament.  Also at that tournament. the FCW ’98 Boys were finalists in the U12 Premier Division, while the ’96 Boys were finalists at the NJSA ’04 Invitational in New Jersey and the ’97 Girls were finalists at the Yorktown Labor Day tournament.

In group play, the ’97 Boys, coach by Edgar Quiroga, topped Commack 3-0, then tied the HBC Titans 1-1 and then defeated Middle Country United 3-0, before topping the HBC Flash 1-0 in the championship game on Sunday.

Meanwhile, also at the HBC tournament, the ’97 Boys, coached by Niall Archbold, won their three group games -- 5-3 over Gottschee, 4-2 over HBC United and 4-2 over the Jericho Hawks -- before losing in the finals to another Gottschee team 3-0.

Across the bridge in southern New Jersey at the NJSA Invitational, the ’96 Boys, coached by James Quiroga, won their preliminary games -- 1-0 over NJSA and 3-0 over Thistle -- before losing in penalty kicks in the finals, where they again played host NJSA.

Back in New York, the ’97 Girls, coached by Brandon Garinger, reached the finals by going 2-1 in group play, topping  Port Washington 1-0 and beating Clarkstown 1-0 before losing to Nirvana 1-0.  In the finals, Middlepatch defeated the FCW girls by a 1-0 margin.
